PLEASE NOTE: Students need to complete the admission process before they can register and enroll in classes. Filling out an admission/registration form doesn't confirm your enrollment. Every student needs to talk to an academic advisor before starting classes. Online classes are not self paced. The classes take about 5 weeks to complete and the students have to be online at certain times.
• Students who are absent the first day will not be admitted to the class.
• Students may not bring children, relatives, or others with them to class.
• Foreign students must sit for TOEFL (61 score)
• Online students must present photo ID

SIX ACADEMIC CLASSES
ECE 101 - Intro. to ECE Curriculum
(Core Requirement for Teachers)
3 semester units = 45 clock hours
An introduction to methods and developmentally appropriate practices to help facilitate learning.
ECE 102 - Child, Family, & Community
(Core Requirement for Teachers)
3 semester units = 45 clock hours
The roles and interactions of family members are examined. Cultural diversity is explored.
ECE 103 - Child Development
(Core Requirement for Teachers)
3 semester units = 45 clock hours
The basic concepts in child development and temperament differences are studied.
ECE 104– Curriculum Planning (Elective)
3 semester units = 45 clock hours
An understanding of creativity and early learning experiences.
Includes creating a weekly curriculum schedule.
ECE 105 - Infant/Toddler Development
(State Requirement for Infant/Toddler Teachers)
3 semester units = 45 clock hours
Physical, cognitive, emotional & social development of infants and toddlers.
ECE 106 - Child Care Center
Supervision & Administration
(State Requirement for Directors)
3 semester units = 45 clock hours
An introduction to leadership/management of the child care center. Prerequisites: 3 classes.
TWO FIELD TRAINING CLASSES
May be scheduled any time.
ECE 107 - Intro. to ECE Environment (Elective)
3 semester units = 135 Clock Hours
Work experience in a licensed childcare center.
ECE 108 - Childcare Provider Practicum (Elective)
3 semester units = 90 Clock Hours
Planning, teaching and leading activities in a licensed child care setting. |
OUR CLASSES PREPARE YOU FOR
THESE EMPLOYMENT POSITIONS
SIX UNITS:
6 Units = substitute preschool teacher.
6 units + continuing enrollment = provisional preschool teacher.
6 units in Infant Development and Child Development + continuing enrollment = provisional infant teacher.
TWELVE UNITS with 6 months experience:
12 units including core classes = preschool teacher.
The same 12 units = school -age child care teacher.
12 units in core classes with Infant development = infant teacher.
FIFTEEN UNITS with 4 years experience:
15 units, as above, plus Supervision & Administration = Center director.
15 units as above, with Supervision & Administration AND Infant Development = Infant Center Director.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
• Student must have a high school diploma/G.E.D or BA Degree and be at least 18 years of age.
• Photo ID required
• English as a foreign language, California College of Early Childhood Education offers classes in English only. No English as a Second Language courses are available. English Language services are not provided.
• The College requires English as a second language students to take the TOEFL IBT test. The cost is $185. Students can access the website to register for the test at www.sts.org/toefl. It takes a little over 4 hours to complete. The minimum score for admission is 61.

Our Early Childhood Education Certificate is aimed to meet the needs of students who wish to work with young children under California state licensing title 22. It is designed to provide students with the fundamental knowledge and skills that will support in providing quality care to young children across assorted settings in the early childhood field.
